ProMOS, Cypress to set up joint venture for CMOS image sensors
Taiwan – ProMOS Technologies Inc., a maker of DRAM, will team up with US-based Cypress Semiconductor Corp. to establish a joint venture (JV) for CMOS image sensor production, with ProMOS holding 80 percent share of the JV and Cypress the remaining 20 percent. Production will take place in ProMOS' Chongqing plant in mainland China and Hsinchu plant in Taiwan, using 0.11 micron and 0.18 micron manufacturing processes, respectively. The RD department will be located in the United States, while sales operations will be based in Taiwan.
The JV is projected to launch the first CMOS image sensor product as early as the end of 2007.
